Lead singer Laura Murphy’s stunning voice adds emotional power to traditional ballads like “Angel from Montgomery” and blues standards like “Big Road.” She knocks rock tunes by Tom Petty and country and bluegrass songs (by Gillian Welch, Patty Griffin, and others) out of the park as well.

Guitarist and vocalist Kevin Cavanaugh brings a wide range of styles and sounds to the mix.  His subtle string work and instinctive feel set the mood and give The Vague Assurances a signature sound. He’s also the author of two of the band’s popular originals, “All I Am” and “Whiskey and Beer.”

Bassist Chuck Jacob has played every style over the years on electric and upright bass, from rock to jazz to bluegrass to show tunes.  A multi-instrumentalist, he often doubles on harmonica and plays mandolin and occasional keyboards as well.

Drummer Andrew Rieser provides driving rhythms to electric songs, a jazz sensibility to acoustic numbers, and the occasional high harmony.
